Wheat...West coast wheat markets opened the new year trading slightly
higher on modest gains across the futures complex. Basis levels on all the
wheat classes has also firmed, with bid structures mostly flat over the
next 60 days. After two weeks of unseasonably warm weather, the Pacific
Northwest wheat growing regions are expected to see some snow this week.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed U.S. exporters focused on
corn movement over the holiday-shortened first week of the new year, with
total wheat shipments coming in at just 6.7 million bushels. This puts the
year-to-date total at 561 million bushels, which stands 20% ahead of last
year. West coast exporters moved 3.6 million bushels of wheat, going mostly
to The Philippines, and 20.4 million bushels of corn going mostly to Japan.
